As the fourth election candidate died in West Bengal due to Covid-19 on Sunday and questions hang heavy about the role of election campaigns in the spread of the pandemic in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India has finally cranked up pressure on political parties.

The prime minister will dedicate an LPG import terminal built by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in Haldia and the 348-km Dobhi-Durgapur Natural Gas Pipeline section under the Centre’s ‘Mission Purvodaya’ and ‘Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project’.

RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari on Friday alleged that the Union government “fielded” Sachin Tendulkar to “counter” international personalities who recently commented on the ongoing farmers’ protests, and said it was an insult to the nation. Refuting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) allegations that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal has denied permission to hold a rath yatra from Nadia district, the TMC said on Twitter that the party was indulging in “malicious propaganda”.

“GoWB has not denied permission to any Yatra, as claimed by @BJP4Bengal They are indulging in malicious propaganda with neither substance nor truth. BJP must show material evidence of GoWB denying permission to their Yatra. This is BJP’s attempt to claim victimhood,” the Trinamool Congress tweeted.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was the first woman to present the Railways Budget in 2002, presented the West Bengal Budget 2021 on February 5.

Mamata Banerjee became the first woman to present the Bengal Budget statement for 2021-22 – the last Budget of her second term in power.

 

It usually is the finance minister who reads out the Budget statement in the Legislative Assembly. But, the Trinamool Congress supremo presented the Budget this year as West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra is currently under medical supervision.
